Honoring Earth Day: Cultivating a Love for Nature in Children

Earth Day serves as a powerful reminder of our dependence on the natural world. But this connection stretches beyond a single day – it’s a lifelong journey that begins in childhood. “EarthDay, Nature & Free Activities.”

Vivid Memories, Deeper Understanding

My earliest memories of nature are as clear as the day I got my first car. My mom, grandma, and grandpa ingrained a simple yet profound message: “Cuida la naturaleza, no seas cabezon. Nosotros vivimos de Ella.” (“Take good care of nature, don’t be stubborn. We live off it.”) As a child, I didn’t fully grasp the meaning. Trips to the market with family felt like everyday errands, and picking fresh fish or fruit from local sources seemed effortless. Looking back, I realize that nature wasn’t merely a provider – it was a living, interconnected system sustaining our very existence.
