QuizMyBrainz Portal
For Parents
This page tells you, as plainly as we can, exactly what happens to your child's information when they use QuizMyBrainz — and the rights you have. It is provided under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the amended COPPA Rule (16 C.F.R. Part 312). Our full Privacy Policy has additional detail.

What the Portal Collects From Your Child
The Portal collects only the following, and only if your child (or you) choose to provide it:
| Information | Required? | How long it is kept |
|---|---|---|
|
First name or nickname Used to greet your child during the activity |
Optional — any nickname works; no name is fine too | Deleted when the browser tab closes |
|
Grade level (K–6) So activities display at the right level |
Selected from a list — no free-text entry | Deleted when the browser tab closes |
|
Language (EN / ES / FR / DE) So the Portal displays in the right language |
Selected from a list | Deleted when the session ends, or stored as a preference cookie for up to 365 days if accepted — stores only the two-letter code, nothing else |
In addition, like any website, our server automatically records routine technical information (IP address, browser type, date and time) in its security logs. This is not linked to your child's name and is deleted after 90 days. See our Privacy Policy for the full list. not linked to your child's name and is deleted after 90 days. See our Privacy Policy for the full list.
What the Portal is not built to collect
The Portal has no mechanism to collect — and actively refuses to store — any of the following:
- Last names
- Email addresses, phone numbers, or home addresses
- Photos, audio, or video of your child
- Precise location data
- Persistent device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Biometric identifiers (fingerprints, face scans, voice prints)
- Government-issued identifiers
- Social media handles or logins
How That Information Is Used
The nickname, grade, and language choice are used only to run the activity in front of your child during that visit — to greet them by name and to show content at the right level and in the right language. We rely on the COPPA "support for internal operations" principle: this information is used solely to make the service work, and for nothing else.
Once the browser session ends, that information is gone. We do not keep a record of what your child did, how they scored, or how long they played.
What We Promise Never to Do
These are not policies that can be quietly changed. They are constraints built into how the Portal works at the engineering level.
No advertising
No ads are shown to children. No ad network, ad SDK, or tracking pixel exists anywhere in the Portal.
No sale or sharing
Your child's information is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party for their own purposes.
No AI training
Your child's interactions are never used to train, test, or improve any AI or machine-learning system. This is permanent.
No profiling
We do not build a profile of your child across visits, make automated decisions about them, or track their behavior over time.
No contact
We do not contact your child directly by any means — email, push notification, SMS, or otherwise.
No third-party disclosure
We do not disclose your child's information to any third party for a purpose outside running the Portal.
We Collect No More Than Necessary
COPPA requires that we not condition a child's participation on providing more information than is reasonably necessary. We hold to that standard strictly:
- A child can use every activity with no name at all — the name prompt is optional.
- The grade chooser uses a fixed list — no free-text entry that could reveal more than intended.
- There is no account registration, no email address required, no password to create.
How Long We Keep It
| Information | Kept until | Who controls deletion |
|---|---|---|
| Nickname, grade, language (in session) | Browser tab or session closes | Automatic — no action needed |
user_language user_language cookie (language preference only) |
Up to 365 days on your device | You — clear cookies in your browser at any time |
| Server security logs (IP, browser, time) | 90 days maximum | Us — purged automatically on a rolling schedule |
| First-party analytics (page visits, activity clicks — no name, no cookie) | 90 days maximum | Us — purged automatically on a rolling schedule |
We do not maintain any long-term database of individual children's activity. After a session ends, there is nothing on our servers that identifies your child.
Your Rights as a Parent or Guardian
COPPA gives you the following rights. Here is exactly how each one works in practice:
-
Review your child's information
Because the Portal keeps nothing after a session ends, there is almost never anything to review on our side once the browser closes. If you contact us during or shortly after a session, we will confirm what, if anything, we can identify in our short-lived logs.
-
Refuse further collection
Simply stop your child from using the Portal. There are no subscriptions to cancel and no account to close. To remove the language preference cookie, clear cookies for quizmybrainz.com in your browser settings.
-
Request deletion
Email privacy@quizmybrainz.com and we will confirm what (if anything) we hold and delete it. We may take reasonable steps to verify you are the child's parent or guardian before acting. privacy@quizmybrainz.com.
If You Are a Teacher or School
COPPA allows a school to provide consent on parents' behalf for collection of student information used solely in the educational context. By directing students to the Portal, a teacher or school represents that it has the authority to do so and has met any applicable COPPA, FERPA, and institutional notice obligations.
The Portal is a direct consumer product. It does not collect data on a school's behalf, maintain student records, or act as a school's data processor. Schools wishing to adopt the Portal formally under a written agreement may contact us at privacy@quizmybrainz.com. privacy@quizmybrainz.com.
Consent for Future Features
The Portal currently collects only the minimal, in-session information described above. If we ever add a feature that would collect more — for example, saving progress to an account — or that would share information with a third party, we will obtain your verifiable parental consent before that collection begins and update this notice.
Given the low-sensitivity information involved, the appropriate COPPA-approved method would be "email plus" (a consent email to the parent followed by a confirmatory step), with a stronger method reserved for any feature that would disclose information to third parties.
No such feature exists today. This section describes how we would handle it if that ever changes.
Changes to This Notice
If we change our information practices for children, we will update this notice and the "Last Updated" date, provide a prominent notice on the Portal, and obtain any newly required consent before the change takes effect.
